STYLE

RUSTIC + TRADITIONAL

We are happy to announce the completion of another project at Refine Studios. This one has been over two years in the making and our sweet clients moved in just in time to celebrate their 20th anniversary!

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

We love getting to know each of our clients on a personal level- this really helps us to design for their individual style and needs. This home was no different. Our clients were making the big move to switch gears from their busy careers in Malibu, California to a restful retirement in the Midwest. We placed a big emphasis on rustic textures, capturing views from every angle, and of course, filling the home with music (which was a must for the beloved Pepperdine music professor).

EXTERIOR ELEVATIONS

Stone was a major player on the exterior of this home- covering the majority of the house to create warm, inviting vibes as you approach the wooded land this house sits on. We added dark vertical siding and metal roof accents along with rich wood tones to create a traditional and timeless look that doesn’t interfere with the amazing views.

MATERIAL PRESENTATIONS

Material selections are a large part of our process as a team. We spend countless hours sourcing, scaling in the size of lighting and fixtures into elevations, presenting, then working from client feedback to come back with the approved designs. We always like to have a cohesive feel across rooms, with little surprises along the way in certain finishes to give a fresh look. In this home, the main living areas were all about the large floor-to-ceiling windows, rustic beams and forged iron lighting and hardware details. The primary bedroom and bathroom really leaned into a much lighter and brighter color palette which makes for a big impact as you transition into these spaces. Natural stone and tile, varied wood tones and forged iron were the focus of our material selections. We balanced those more masculine materials with creamy whites, floral wallpapers and polished nickel finishes to bring a feminine touch to the design.

INTERIOR ELEVATIONS

Interior elevations helped us to communicate our more detailed ideas to both the client and builder. These drawings are important to help sell clients on how materials will work together. This client had spent a lot of time thinking about how each room would be used and what storage/organization they would need. We love to incorporate those thoughts in this stage to make sure the design is not only beautiful but functional.

INSTALL

We loved having the opportunity to work with these kind and appreciative clients, they were truly so sweet and patient through the process. We are so happy to be a part of welcoming them home to the midwest for their new stage of relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends.
