This project was for a busy family who just purchased their first home. After renting for several years they were ready to make this house feel not just like a home, but their home. With two young children, durability and functionality were important factors to take into consideration. They were happy with the existing paint colors and flooring but wanted to switch out the light fixtures and furnish the three main living areas. Before hiring me they had already purchased their sectional but were in need of the rest of their furniture. I mixed in some mid-century pieces to make the space feel less traditional and more eclectic. Several custom, locally-made pieces of furniture were incorporated into my design to make their home unique.
They wanted the formal dining room to be turned into a play room so they could get more use out of the space. I was mindful of the overall look of the room since it’s the first thing you see when you walk in, but also made sure it was a fun space for the kids to play. I cut down the legs on a traditional dining table to make it kid height. Doing this made sure the table was properly scaled in the space but at a height that was perfect for the kids. My favorite part of the room was the swings. I love to encourage my clients to do something out of the ordinary and the swings will create such great childhood memories for the kids!
