VIBRANT + REFRESHING

I love all things retro, so when the client told me he would be keeping the existing {retro} light fixture, I decided to build the design from that. He showed me this old dining table he had been storing in his garage in hopes of using it in the space. Although it wasn’t a table I would typically seek out for a retro styled space, I loved the simplicity of it, the scale, as it was a bit more narrow than most dining tables, and the fact that it held sentimental value to the client. It provided such a great staple piece to the room and allowed me to lean more towards the wild side on other selections, such as the rug and dining chairs.

The iron dining chairs in their original finish from the 1950’s were my favorite element in the space. They were reupholstered in a yellow boucle fabric which gave them a fresh, clean look. I chose to do live edge floating shelves instead of a furniture piece along the back wall to allow plenty of open space in the room. It’s not noticeable right away but there is a very subtle, patterned wallpaper on the ceiling. The application of wallpaper on the ceiling is a retro concept within itself but I also chose a vintage looking pattern. With a smaller scaled chandelier, the wallpaper was a great way to provide a little more dimension to the ceiling.
